Exciting news for the future of Digital Radio in Coventry

Coventry Community Digital Radio CIC is proud to have been awarded the license to run the new Small Scale DAB Multiplex for Coventry.

The new Small Scale Coventry Multiplex is now on air and is accepting new services.

Background

Coventry Community Digital Radio is a not for profit Community Interest Company, which was created by a number of local community radio stakeholders to secure and deliver free, high quality DAB access for the existing community radio stations based in Coventry.

We've placed local community radio right at the heart of the project. Our new DAB Multiplex will ensure that all local of the existing community stations in Coventry have a guaranteed place on our platform. The company also offers DAB carriage services for commercial service providers who are interested in digital broadcasting within the Coventry area.

We have now agreed the final coverage area with OFCOM. Please click here to download the Official Coverage Map from OFCOM.

Please note: It is important when analysing coverage of DAB multiplexes to look at the official OFCOM maps as this indicates the licensed protected service area using a consistent algorithm. OFCOM provide every multiplex operator with a map as part of the commissioning process. Our new DAB Multiplex will cover the majority of the City of Coventry. There may be some reception available outside of the area at suboptimal signal strengths.

Our rates will be 24k for a Digital Service Provider - £1642.59 per annum.

32k for a Digital Service Provider - £2023.45 per annum.

48k for a Digital Service Provider - £2785.17 per annum.

In accordance with "fair and effective competition" license conditions, our discount structure is clearly defined and is based upon service providers being C-DSP license holders. All similar services will be charged identical amounts as per Section 11 of our multiplex license. C-DSP licences for the existing Community Stations in Coventry will receive a discount.

Getting your radio service on to our new DAB Multiplex in Coventry

Following our license award from OFCOM, the new Coventry Small Scale DAB Multiplex is now on air and is welcoming new digital radio services in the City.

We would also be delighted to hear from any radio station who may wish to add their services to our new DAB Multiplex.

ABOUT US

Coventry Community Digital Radio CIC is a new local partnership of community radio stations based in Coventry.

Our objective is to provide high quality digital radio transmission services and access to the new Small Scale DAB Multiplex in Coventry.

The new CIC is an exciting new partnership between:

Coventry Spirit Radio (Radio Plus) – An OFCOM licensed community station that launched in 2010. Radio Plus serves the 15-35 year old market, providing great music, local features and a Christian prospective on life in Coventry.

Vanny Radio - An OFCOM licensed community station that launched in 2014. It serves the under 25 and BAME communities living in Coventry.

Stuart Linnell MBE - Chairman. Stuart is an award winning broadcaster and veteran of the UK Radio Industry. He has previously chaired the Coventry Chamber of Commerce. Now semi retired, Stuart is currently chair of Healthwatch Coventry.

Simon McAusland - Chief Executive. Simon is also an award winning broadcaster and veteran of the UK's Radio and Music Industries. As a world leading music consultant, he has also acted as the Chief Music Strategist to many of the worlds biggest brands.

Sam Hunt – Technical Partner. Maxxwave is the technical partner who will oversee the design, installation and management of our DAB broadcast platform. Maxxwave currently provide transmission services for many of the UK's leading commercial broadcasters.

Dr Rob Watson – Administrator. Decentered Media will provide administrative support for the project. Overseeing our license administration and the day to day management of the service.

The new DAB service has already gained strong local support from Coventry City Council, The UK City of Culture Trust, Creative Lives and The Bishop of Coventry.
